Painted with watercolours, this guide creates a dreamlike atmosphere and describes the buildings and shops of Bern, the capital of Switzerland.
Next to each illustration, there is a brief description in English and German, providing both historical and practical information. Restaurants, museums, bars, shopping, and events.
This beautiful book was created by a guest house, Sonnen.ch, and it’s the answer to the question most visitors ask at the reception: “Where should I go, what should I do, what should I eat?” What a lovely connection between a tourism business and a travel guide. Browsing their website, you can tell that they love to create. In addition to their main activity as the Bed and Breakfast Sonnen Loft, they also produce a series of non-alcoholic beverages with fabulous labels (I can’t stop staring at them) and a series of Cityguides, including Zurich and Basel. The guides are being updated each year.
This guide was found in a bookstore in Bern, but it’s also available at the Einstein Museum in the city.
I love this guide more than my other guides, because it was brought to me by my daughter the first time she traveled abroad without us. I will never forget the joy on her face, when she gave me something she knew I wanted more than anything else. As you already know, it’s very hard to find such guides but she knew exactly where to look, since she has seen me searching on all our trips.
So, through the pages of a book, I have been to Bern with my daughter and I know its shops and its vibe.
One day, I will be there too.
