Some buildings feel so familiar that you never bother to learn their story.
In Thessaloniki,Greece the city’s iconic building “The White Tower” is one of them.
You look at it, you walk past it, you sit on the grass below, stroll along the waterfront and think, “One day I should go up there.” But somehow, you always leave it for next time.
Each time, you notice that it’s not quite as white as its name suggests. You wonder why it’s called that… and then move on.
In this book, the White Tower finally tells its own story, in a simple and engaging way, for children of all ages.
I didn’t actually buy it at the tower itself, but at a small souvenir shop on Dimitriou Gounari street, called ilovethessaloniki.com.
And maybe next time… who knows, I might finally go up and take in the view over Thessaloniki.
