This little pocket book is soooo Edinburrrrrgh, with many rolling Scottish r’s. The moment I saw it, I felt like I was under the shadow of the castle.
The book begins with the familiar nickname of the city, “Athens of the North” only to add: “Without the heat”. Definitely a city without heat, with chilling winds and as Robert Louis Stevenson once said, ‘In Edinburgh the delicate die early’. I was a delicate who stayed there for a year. I didn’t die but I always had a runny nose. Despite that, I still love and miss Princes Street, the Castle and the cobbled streets. This book tells the story of Edinburgh in its own peculiar way and makes a great souvenir.
